This is a famous quote by the stand-up comedy legend, George Carlin. In one of his performances, he says, “Governments don’t want a population capable of critical thinking. They want obedient workers, people just smart enough to run the machines and just dumb enough to passively accept their situation.”
George Carlin hits the nail on the head with this point. In his performance, he criticizes the passiveness of American citizens. As our liberties continuously diminish, the people continue to accept the situation that is handed to them, and we consequently get screwed by the system. Instead of intellectually “waking up,” people tend to accept what is given to them without thinking for themselves or questioning how things work (or why). Although his point is comical, it is surprisingly relevant. Our population, for the most part, has become only smart enough to operate the necessary technology/machines to thrive in this debt-money-based economy, yet just stupid enough (and close minded enough) to not understand/realize what those in power are really doing.
